The specific job Amber 81 is built for
Madico Amber 81 is a special-purpose film for glazing with one specific job to do. Some rooms have a lighting problem that ordinary window tint ignores. Materials and processes that react to UV and to light in the blue range need more than a clear film offers. Madico notes that a clear or lightly tinted film stops UV only up to about 380 nm and lets the rest through.
What Amber 81 does, in Madico's figures
Amber 81 rejects more than 99% of UV up to 380 nm and, per Madico's brochure, keeps transmission below 10% up to and past 500 nm. Filtering that range gives the glass an amber look, with visible light transmitted at 56%. Glare reduction is listed at 38%.
Where Amber 81 fits best
NorthGuard suggests Madico Amber 81 for jobs like these.
- Labs, research rooms and clean-room style spaces, all on Madico's own application list.
- Pharmaceutical packaging and food processing areas with sunlit glass.
- Rooms with UV-sensitive materials or UV curing work near windows.
- Spaces where an amber cast is acceptable and light below 500 nm has to be cut.
What Amber 81 will not do
Madico Amber 81 has limits that NorthGuard states before any quote.
- Amber 81 is not a heat film: total solar energy rejected is only 28% and infrared rejection is 25%.
- The amber filter changes how colours look, so it suits rooms where true colour is not critical.
- Madico tells readers to consult a medical professional before using any film for a health issue, so Amber 81 is treated here as a light filter only.
