The broken-glass risk Clear 7mil is built for
Madico Clear 7mil is for glass where a broken pane would be a hazard or an easy way in. Storefront and office glass can break from a dropped item or a hard knock, and shards from a broken pane spread fast. Owners want those shards held in place without a tinted look from the street.
How Clear 7mil is built and what it does
Clear 7mil is a single-ply film about 0.008 inch thick, with a 0.007 inch structural layer. It passes 88% of visible light, blocks 99% or more of UV and lists break strength at 175 pounds per inch of width. Madico describes four anchoring options across its clear safety range.
Where Clear 7mil fits best
NorthGuard suggests Madico Clear 7mil for jobs like these.
- Street-level shop windows where shards on the sidewalk are the worry and a tint is unwanted.
- Glass doors and side panels in offices with daily traffic.
- Reception areas and restaurants with large panes that should keep daylight at 88%.
- Projects that want more film strength than the thinnest clear option without moving to a laminate build.
What Clear 7mil will not do
Madico Clear 7mil has limits that NorthGuard states before any quote.
- Heat control is small, with 20% total solar energy rejected and 1% glare reduction.
- As a single-ply film it lists 175 pounds per inch of width, and Madico publishes no puncture or tear numbers.
- The film holds shards in place, but a pane can still break and entry is only delayed. The glass should be checked first.
