What changes the price of window film in Toronto
Typical Toronto window film prices per square foot, and what moves your quote.
Window film prices depend on the film, the glass and the access. This page gives our typical ranges and explains what moves the number, so you can budget before anyone visits.
Typical price ranges
The installed prices page has the same table.
Typical installed prices in Toronto and the GTA, before HST:
- Privacy and frosted film: $15 to $18 per square foot
- Solar film: $15 to $18 per square foot
- Safety and security film: $16 to $26 per square foot
HST is extra. These are our typical ranges, not a quote. Your price depends on the glass, the access and the film, and is confirmed after measuring.
Small jobs
There is no minimum job size. Small jobs, roughly under 100 square feet, also carry one combined charge for travel and project management. It is shown as its own line on your written quote. That charge is not included in the per-square-foot ranges above, so a small job's total is more than area times rate. Jobs under about 100 square feet are quoted as one all-in price that includes the charge.
Large commercial projects are priced separately. A commercial project our founders completed in October 2024, before NorthGuard opened, was priced at $12 per square foot, supply and install, for about 6,000 square feet of commercial glass (York University Markham campus). That is the price of that project, not a starting price for a home.
Glass type
Annealed, tempered, heat-strengthened and laminated glass take film differently. A low-emissivity coating can change which film is safe to apply. Our glass and window film compatibility guide covers this in detail.
Thickness and attachment
Security and safety film are specified by thickness and by how the edge is attached. A thicker film, or an attachment system that ties the film into the frame, is a different job from film cut to the edge of the visible glass. Security and safety films come from the manufacturers named above, chosen per opening.
Access and height
A ground-floor pane and a pane that needs a lift, a night shift or a freight elevator are not the same labour. Condo rules on hours, parking and protection of common areas can add time. Those rules come from the corporation, not from a standard price.
Pane count and size
Each pane is measured. A quote built from a photo or a rough width is incomplete. Small panes can take as long to prepare as large ones. The count of openings, not a room name, drives the labour.
Film type
Privacy, solar, decorative, safety and security film are different types. A home can use more than one, and combining types on one opening is its own specification. We install Madico, SunTek, Solar Gard and 3M films, including 3M Fasara decorative glass finishes, 3M Crystal Glass Finishes (Dusted Crystal, Frosted Crystal), 3M privacy films and 3M™ Anti-Graffiti Window Film. The window film planner can suggest a type for your glass.
Old film
Film already on the glass has to be identified and, if it must come off, removed and the adhesive cleared before new film goes on. Removal is not assumed in a first-install scope. We confirm the condition of old film when we see it in person.
How a measured quote works
- You tell us the openings and the goal in the planner or the contact form.
- We measure the glass, or we price from measurements you confirm in writing.
- The quote names the film, any edge attachment and the price, including any small-job charge.
- On condo jobs, installation is scheduled once you have the board's written approval. See how condo approval works.
NorthGuard opened in November 2025. Our lead installer has more than 10 years of hands-on window film experience, and our founders worked in the industry before the company opened. Each manufacturer sets the warranty for its film, and you get those terms in writing.
